Barkerville Chinooks has begun to receive news about health test of Cora x Bryson puppies born in 2023:

Barkerville Walker received her hip evaluation results from OFA and her hips are GOOD! In terms of genetics, Walker is clear on IVDD, MRD1, and chondrodysplasia. Her COI is 41%.

Barkerville Penny from Heaven received her OFA health test results - her hip evaluation results are GOOD and elbows are NORMAL! In terms of genetics, Penny is clear on IVDD, MRD1, and chondrodysplasia. Her COI is 38%.

In late August 2025, Mary Chapin Carpenter released a new music video with the song "Girl And Her Dog."
Weeks earlier she put out a call for photographs of women and girls with their dogs. You will see a beautiful array of these photos. At 1:34, 4:47 and 5:10, you will see Chinooks among them!

Barkerville Chinooks had puppies!
Barkerville Chinooks produced a litter of six Chinook puppies in New Hampshire on May 4 and 5, 2025. They were known as The West Wing litter, with puppies named for characters in that show.
The dam, Barkerville Harriet Blue, is a 2nd generation Chinook cross from the Chinook Breed Conservation Program (CBCP). Blue's sire is Vanguard North Brother Mtn (Brud), a 1st generation Chinook-Tamaskan Cross. Her dam is Barkerville Cora Anne, a purebred Chinook. Puppies are eligible for purebred registration with the United Kennel Club (UKC).
The sire, Ferncroft Tormund Evan, is a purebred Chinook (UKC and AKC registered) from New Hampshire's Ferncroft Chinooks. Both dogs brought positive attributes in health, temperament, structure, and workability. ​

Maine Historical Society hosted a Meet the Chinook event on May 31, 2025. GreatMountain Sindarin Rhoin and GreatMountain Lovely Juniper represented the breed delightfully, charming people across the age span. ​​​​
The Maine Historical Society showed a touch of also being the Maine Hysterical Society by posting this sweet and fun video from the event on their social media.

Maple's​
Maple whelped 6 puppies in December 2024 - 3 boys, 3 girls. Pups left for their new homes in February 2025.

Maple is 2nd generation in the COA’s Chinook Breed Conservation Program and brings genetic diversity to the table. Maple's and Arlo's puppies will be eligible to be registered as UKC purebreds.​

Harriet Blue's hip results are OFA EXCELLENT and her eye exam is NORMAL. Blue is clear on IVDD, MRD1, and dwarfism. His COI is 18%.

Tallulah's hip results are OFA GOOD and her eye exam was NORMAL. She is clear on IVDD, MRD1, and carries 1 gene for dwarfism. Her COI is 23%.

Maple's hip results are OFA EXCELLENT and her eye exam is NORMAL. She is clear for MRD1, is at increased risk for IVDD, and carries 1 gene for dwarfism. Her COI is 26%.

Takoda's hip results fare OFA GOOD and PennHIP 95th percentile. His eye exam is NORMAL. He is clear on IVDD, MRD1, and dwarfism. His COI is 23%.

Katara's hip results are OFA EXCELLENT. She is clear on IVDD, MRD1, and dwarfism. Her COI is 23%. Katara is spayed and will not be bred.

These pups are 2nd-generation Chinook x Tamaskan cross, part of the COA's Chinook Breed Conservation Program. When bred with a purebred Chinook, their offspring can be registered as UKC purebred Chinooks.

Moose's hip results from OFA are EXCELLENT. Eye exam is Normal with Breeders Option (PPM). Moose is clear on IVDD, MRD1, and dwarfism. His COI is 18%.

Rio's hip results from OFA are GOOD and eye exam was NORMAL. Rio is clear on IVDD and MRD1 and carries 1 gene for dwarfism. His COI is 21%.

I am happy to announce that Sweet Maple Mae's hip evaluations have come back today with a rating of EXCELLENT! Both Maple's dam (Cora) and her maternal grandsire (Huck) have excellent hips. Maple's sire (Brud) has good hips.

It's particularly sweet that this news arrived on Chocorua's birthday, an already sweet day for GreatMountain Chinooks!

Dirigo's a grandma! Her puppy, Erin (puppy name was Fiddlehead) whelped 7 puppies (5 male, 2 female). These pups are 2nd generation Chinook x Lab crosses in the COA's Chinook Breed Conservation Program.

Old News ...
The March 2017 edition of Downeast Magazine includedmy favorite Chinooks on page 24 in a story about them appearing on a Togolaise postage stamp. Three cheers for the beautiful and dear Chocorua and Jackman. Many thanks to Ginny Wrigh for crafting this sweet feature. I met Ginny in the 1990s at Chinook events, where she brought her Chinook Hank. I later met her again when she covered the Maine-Wabanaki Child Welfare Truth and Reconciliation Commission for Downeast Magazine. Then this. I do love a small world.

Little did we know that we would find more Chinooks on postage stamps!
Chocorua and her son Jackman appeared in the foreground of a postage stamp from the Republic of Togo. The sled team in the background are from Intervale Chinooks.
A few years ago, Moxie appeared in the foreground of a postage stamp from the Solomon Islands. The running Chinooks in the background were Yukon Charley, Trav'ler, Chocorua, and Mahoosuc.
