Maple is 2nd generation in the COA’s Chinook Breed Conservation Program and brings genetic diversity to the table. When bred with a purebred Chinook Maple’s puppies will be eligible to be registered as UKC purebreds. Maple is expecting puppies in December 2024.
Maple is a sweet girl with beautiful conformation and movement. She loves living with her papa, Brud. She's not shy, but she needs a moment when meeting new people. She is a friend after that. ​

She is sweeter than the maple syrup that is named after her.

Meet Maple's puppies from her 1st litter!
Maple had 6 puppies on December 9 and 10, 2024. Desert Sol Arlo Baci is the sire of these pups, which the 3rd generation of a Chinook crossbreeding with a Tamaskan Dog. Read more about the Chinook-Tamaskan crosses and the lineage of these puppies in our Crossbreeding section.
During an early winter storm in Maine, we gathered in our own little world oblivious of the outside conditions. All of our attention was focused on Maple and the pending arrival of her puppies. The first puppy arrived shortly after 7 pm on 12/9/24. Maple whelped with relative ease and tended to her pups with focused care.

​We were delighted to welcome 3 females and 3 male Chinooks into the world and invite you to meet them below.
Name That Tune Litter
​Have you ever been singing along with a song and someone dear comes to your mind? This litter's theme is Name That Tune. Puppy names come from song titles (some favorite oldies). I am imagining people serenading their Chinook with sweet lyrics from each of these songs - serenading them across their lifetime. ​Let me introduce you to the Name That Tune puppies!
Sylvie Sol (Sylvie)
Sylvie (Daisy Jane), a tawny female, arrived at 7:20 pm on 12/9/24., weighing in at 16.07 oz. Daisy Jane is a tawny pup with a dark muzzle. She has a nice front, strong rear, and solid body. She has a nice head with a short and deep muzzle with a deep back skull which makes for a really nice wedge-shaped head,
She found a loving home with a family of 4 in Portland, OR - the other Portland. ​Sylvie is a sweetheart who wants to say hello to every person she meets - the mail lady is her favorite. And young kids. And her dog trainer, who enthusiastically awaits Sylvie being bred. Sylvie, in turn, adds joy to their day. Sylvie loves going to the dog park to play with her dog friends, chasing and being chased, and a bit of wrestling. Sylvie is a snuggler, taking time to snuggle with each of the household members for a spell each night. Her family is crazy for her.​​​
Willing & Able (Able)
Able, (Sweet Baby James), is a tawny male who arrived at 8:14 pm on 12/9/24., weighing in at 16.02 oz. Able has a nice front, straight legs, a broader chest, and heavier bone. He has a strong rear with straight legs that a moderately placed and are well muscled. He has a nicely balanced body with a level topline, a better forechest, and a strong neck. He has proper rear and front angulation with a well curved stifle He is well muscled with strong substance.

Able lives in midcoast Maine with his people. He is smart, sweet, and agile. He likes to play fetch, tug of war and keep away. Able spends occasional days at a law office and can settle into a day of napping while there. He loves everyone he meets. He loves his people the most. And they adore him. We’re so lucky that Able is close enough to enjoy periodic play dates with Juniper.​

Granite Quimbo (Quimbo)
Quimbo (Bridge) is a black and tan male who arrived at 9:25 pm on 12/9/24., weighing in at 14.8 oz. Bridge has a nice front with straight legs. He has a nice rear with straight legs that a moderately spaced. Quimbo has a nice head with a strong underjaw. He has a proper stop and a nice wedge-shape.

Quimbo lives with longtime Chinook owners and breeders in NH. He has a sweet personality. In a dogsledding presentation at an elementary school, he impressed everyone with his sweetness. No visit with the family granddaughters is complete without Quimbo. His mischievous side includes hiding clothes and slippers in his kennel. Quimbo has nice movement and balance.

Bowie
Bowie, a silver tawny male, arrived at 12:07 am on 12/10/24., weighing in at 15.2 oz. He looked like a gray puppy when he arrived. He has a nice front with straight legs. Bowie has nice substance with a rear with straight legs that are moderately spaced. He has a nice head with a short muzzle, a proper stop, and an aquiline nose.​
Bowie lives in midcoast Maine with his beloved family of 4 humans and a big brother Chinook, Blue. They call him their "sweet rascal.” He washes his “girls” with dozens of kisses, then runs off with their toys! He is fast and agile, so the girls set up agility courses for him inside and out. He loves this! He also loves cuddling, playing keep away, snacking on bully sticks and carrots, and playing with his cow toy! He walks politely on leash and loves to swim.
Lovely Juniper (Juniper)
Juniper, whose puppy name was Lovely, is a tawny female who arrived at 12:31 am on 12/10/24., weighing in at 14.3 oz. Juniper is a tawny pup with a dark muzzle. She has a nice front with straight legs. She has a strong rear with straight legs that are moderately placed and are well muscled. She has a nice topline, and lovely balance. She has a broad and nicely curved stifle.

Juniper loves living with her momma Maple, grandpa Brud, Auntie Moon, and great Auntie Dirigo. Like siblings, she is sweet and mischievous. She has a lot of energy and LOVES to play and run. She attended a Meet the Chinook event at Maine Historical Society and was adored by attendees. While a bit shy, she greeted the people and loved the other Chinook. She is smart and learns fast - when she wants to. I still sing to her - Isn't She Lovely? and Jennifer Juniper.​​
Kennebec River (River)
River, whose puppy name was Sun, is a buff female who arrived at 3:41 am on 12/10/24., weighing in at 15.5 oz. ​Sun is a buff puppy. She has a nice front with straight legs and a broad chest. She has a proper turnout at the foot. She has a strong rear with straight legs that are moderately placed and are well muscled. She is longer than tall. She has strong front angulation.

River lives in NH with longtime Chinook owners and her great Uncle Dawson. She is a beautiful girl with a strong and lean body. She is fast and agile. River enjoys life with her people. She and Dawson play, and Dawson lets her know when he’s done! River is well known across town with regular visits to the bank, the post, and the fire department. She loves everyone she meets. Because she is near, River and Juniper have visited a few times. After some initial challenges with housebreaking and settling in crate, River has accomplished both of these things.​​
