Chinook Breed Conservation Program: Tamaskan Line
Generations 1 & 2
In 2017, the COA approved the Chinook Breed Conservation Program (CBCP), in partnership with the UKC and informed by population geneticists. The program’s goal is to “maintain a healthy, genetically sustainable Chinook population, with the breed’s historical temperament, working ability, structure, and appearance.”
The first crossline approved in this program was accomplished through a Chinook x Tamaskan Sled Dog breeding by Vanguard Chinooks.

The breeding between Calista x Darwin produced 6 first generation crossbred Chinook puppies. There were 2 females and 4 males in the litter. Health outcomes include:
Hips - 3 OFA Excellent, 3 OFA Good
Eyes - 6 CAER Normal
Three of the males sired a total of 4 litters, producing 25 second generation crossbred Chinooks. One of their offspring has been bred, producing 7 third generation crossbred Chinook puppies, who will be registered as UKC purebred puppies.
Additional breeding is planned with the second-generation offspring, including a fall/winter 2024 breeding.

Vanguard X North Brother Mtn
Brother (aka Brud) is a first generation cross from the CBCP, his dam a purebred Chinook and sire a Tamaskan Dog. The Tamaskan Dog was a great choice for crossbreeding with Chinooks. They are gentle, active and athletic. They are intelligent, sweet and affectionate.
In 2018, Brother "came home" to GreatMountain Farm. Brother enjoys living with the pack here. He has sired 2 litters of puppies producing 17 second generation crossbred Chinook puppies, including his daughter, Barkerville Sweet Maple Mae who took up residence here in 2021.
